The essential sources are the annual reports and surveys. They help FO professionals identify emerging trends in the market, or they serve as a benchmarking tool for industry standards. According to Forbes, there are some leading reports, including the following:

01 Technology in the Family Offices Study by FOX

The FOX (Family Office Exchange) peer community includes over 300 multi-generational family groups from more than 25 countries. The leading US company has been operating on the market for over 30 years, serving families, their offices, and their advisors, “providing objective guidance and thoughtful solutions to the unique obstacles that family offices face.” In 2022, FOX and Fondazione AIS conducted a research study on technology in FOs. The report details findings on technology usage and needs for the FO. The future of connectivity, integration, and next-generation computing are driving changes that all involved with FO operations and technologies need to know.

02 Global Family Office Compensation Benchmark Report by Agreus Group

More than half (58%) of the FO professionals received an increase in their salary in 2022, and most of them (74%) facilitate working from home. The obvious FO team has less than five employees; 21% of the FO professionals identify themselves as female. Also, these are the key highlights of the 2023 Global Family Office Compensation Benchmark Report. Agreus Group, a global consultancy for FOs, gathered the qualitative data from 625 Single Family Office professionals across the world, ranging from personal assistants to CEO’s to chairpersons, as well as 25 interviews with FO leaders. The report is one of the world’s largest data sets on FO compensation.

03 The International Family Offices Journal by Globe Law and Business

“Family offices are not only financial; they are personal. The International Family Offices Journal offers insights into every aspect of family office, taking a multi-cultural perspective in all of its articles,” says Dennis Jaffe, Wise Counsel Research, about this leading FO online journal. The quarterly reports on various topics deal with family office structure, governance, investment approaches, or succession planning. The September 2023 issue contains, for example, the text by Jessica Schaedler, the executive committee and Leading Trust Advisor at Capital Trustees AG in Zurich and Lugano about embedding the FO within a dedicated or private trust company in Switzerland or the relevant news alerts from the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

05 World Wealth Report 2023 by Capgemini

Also in 2023, Capgemini Research Institute issued its detailed insight into HNWIs with data compiled by the company´s extensive primary research. The report reflects the views of 3,171 High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWIs), 3,203 affluents, 95+ Wealth Management (WM) executives and wealth managers, along with 800 relationship managers across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. During 2022, HNWI wealth and population totals experienced the highest declines in a decade, dropping by 3.6% and 3.3%, respectively, as compared to 2021.
