Aim of the Foundation
The Foundation’s mission is to develop evidence-based learning ideas, support schools in providing quality education, share best practices and collaborate to transform education systems around the world. The Jacobs Foundation’s mission is to provide children and young people with effective knowledge, skills, tools and equitable opportunities so that they can reach their full learning potential and grow together.
History of the Foundation
In 1989, Jacobs and his family established the Jacobs Foundation, an internationally oriented private foundation based in Zurich. Its aim was to actively and sustainably support future generations of young people, to offer them opportunities for positive development and to make them socially responsible members of society.
Jacobs has received numerous honorary degrees in recognition of his outstanding efforts to promote education and youth. In 2005, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel. In 2008, he was made an honorary senator of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Conference Foundation for his services to education. Just to name a few.
Investing in development and youth
The Jacobs Foundation has committed $38.3 million to development in 2021 as part of its grantmaking efforts. Compared to 2020, this amount represents a net increase of 105.6 per cent.
