A World in Common
The Common World exhibition at Tate Modern begins with an account of the impact of colonialism and slavery, inspired by George Osodi’s series Nigerian Monarchs: Colonialism Erodes Power. Portraits of the ruler play an important role in their community and are thus also thematised in the exhibition. It is a perfect contrast to open the exhibition of contemporary African photography with a tribute to 36 renowned artists and at the same time pay tribute to the historical heritage that many of these photographers rightly incorporate into their work.
Crown to Couture
The glittering world of the Georgian court meets modern glamour on the red carpet in a new exhibition that opened this April at Kensington Palace, the setting for historic fashion. Showcasing contemporary couture worn by celebrities such as Lizzo and Lady Gaga alongside period costumes, The Crown to Couture explores the fascinating parallels between the world of the red carpet and the world of 18th century court. To bring the experience to life, Historic Royal Palaces, the charity that manages Kensington Palace, have teamed up with Emmy award-winning production designer Joseph Bennett, best known for designing the famous Alexander McQueen catwalk show.
