Should I look for original packaging?

The more original items you can get, the better.
This includes the original box and the watch’s papers.
However, these items are not essential to authenticate the watch
if you are buying it from a certified dealer. But they are certainly nice to have.

For some watches original packaging is more important than
for others- Rolex, for example, doesn’t really offer much in the way
of an authentication service, so often the easiest way to check a Rolex is original is to have the paperwork with all the relevant numbers
on it from the original sale.

However, most vintage watch boxes tend to be simple,
small leather affairs and were often not kept by the original owners.
