Harding’s spirit of exploration extends beyond aviation, with numerous Guinness World Records to his name. In 2016, he joined Buzz Aldrin on a historic journey to the South Pole, making Aldrin the oldest person to reach the South Pole and Harding a part of this momentous achievement. But Harding’s most exciting exploits are underwater. In 2021, he teamed up with U.S. businessman and adventurer Victor Vescovo for a deep-sea dive to the Challenger Deep, the deepest point on Earth. They set two world records, including the longest distance traveled at full ocean depth by a manned vessel, a testament to Harding’s relentless courage and determination.
A Journey to the Stars
In addition to his oceanic explorations, Harding has also ventured into the vastness of space. In 2022, he joined the fifth crewed mission of Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, NS-21. This extraordinary journey allowed Harding to experience the wonders of space and further solidified his status as an adventurer willing to push the boundaries of human exploration.
The Titanic Expedition
Harding’s most recent endeavour was a mission to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, the iconic ship that met a tragic fate in 1912. As a mission specialist aboard OceanGate Expeditions’ submarine, Harding embarked on a historic journey to the depths of the North Atlantic. This expedition, which attracted considerable attention and interest from around the world, was designed to provide a rare glimpse of the remains of the most famous marine tragedy in history. Unfortunately, tragedy struck during the expedition when the submersible lost contact with its mothership. The vessel, along with Harding and four others, suffered a “catastrophic implosion,” instantly killing all five passengers on board. The devastating news of their demise sent shockwaves through the research community and beyond.
